CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, Mo. (Heartland News) - A Cape Girardeau man has been arrested in connection with a shooting in May.

David Joseph Trochez, 18, of Cape Girardeau, was charged with one count of felony first-degree assault, three felony counts of armed criminal action, felony first-degree property damage and felony unlawful use of a weapon - shooting from a motor vehicle.

Trochez is in custody at the sheriff’s office on a $250,000 cash-only bond.

According to the sheriff’s office, on May 26, they began investigating a shooting at around 4 a.m. in the 2500 block of Windy Hill Lane.

They say three people tried to get into a parked vehicle but left after finding someone inside.

Investigators say the three later returned to the area in a stolen vehicle. Multiple shots were fired from that vehicle toward the parked vehicle and three people nearby, who took cover behind it.

No injuries were reported.

During the investigation, deputies got surveillance video, recovered spent cartridge casings and documented bullet damage to the parked vehicle.

They identified Trochez as the person who fired the shots.
