WESTERN Ky. (KFVS) - The Kentucky State Police report three people died in a multi-vehicle crash in Livingston County on Monday.

According to KSP, a semi-truck driven by 24-year-old Mansur Kholikov of Brooklyn, New York, was traveling westbound on I-24 when traffic began to slow down near the 32-mile marker. However, for reasons still under investigation, KSP said Kholikov‘s vehicle did not slow down.

The semi reportedly collided with multiple other vehicles, causing secondary collisions involving five other vehicles.

When first responders arrived, one of the vehicles was completely engulfed in flames. The driver, 68-year-old Saundra Dodd of Evansville, Indiana, along with two children who were inside the vehicle died at the scene.

Two people from other vehicles were airlifted to out-of-state hospitals, while additional victims were taken to local hospitals.

Kholikov did not report any injuries.

The roadway is clear, but the crash remains under investigation,

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the crash site was immediately east of the KY 453 Grand Rivers Exit 31 interchange. It was initially estimated to reopen at 1:30 a.m. but was cleared sometime after 8 p.m. on July 29.

KYTC says westbound I-24 traffic was being detoured off at the U.S. 62 Eddyville-Kuttawa Exit 40 interchange to follow U.S. 62 West to exit 27 at Calvert City. To help emergency response personnel, drivers were asked to stay on U.S. 62 to the exit 27 interchange.

Westbound drivers were also encouraged to consider a detour at the U.S. 68 Cadiz Exit 65 interchange to take U.S. 68 west through Aurora to Draffenville, then take I-69 North to return to I-24. KYTC said this would help reduce the traffic on the main detour.

According to KYTC, there was also some impact on eastbound traffic due to a traffic backup at the eastbound Exit 40 ramp. Heavy cross traffic due to the detour made it difficult to make turns at the end of the ramp.

This section of I-24 also carries I-69 traffic.
