Driver arrested in hit-and-run, says man “threw himself" onto car

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Police have arrested a driver after witnesses say a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in Cape Girardeau just before midnight on Friday, May 9.

Julie A. Moore, 60, was arrested and a warrant was issued for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident. She has a $10,000 cash or surety bond.

According to court documents, Friday night an officer received a report of a driver leaving the scene of an crash on the 300 block of North Pacific Street. When the officer arrived at the scene he said he saw a man laying face up in the middle of the road.

Documents state that the man was taken to an area hospital for unknown injuries.

Officials said when the man was questioned about the incident his speech was incoherent and unintelligible.

When officials left the hospital it was about one hour after the crash occurred.

Officials said they heard radio traffic that said Moore and her vehicle had been located at the 500 block of N. Sprigg St.

The officer said when they arrived at the location Moore said she was headed north on Pacific St when the man “threw himself onto the left front of my car.”

Moore told officials the incident happened so fast it scared her. She also said she was about to report the incident to police when officers arrived at her residence.

Multiple fire crews, police and emergency responders were at the scene near Southeast Missouri State University after the collision.

Asst. Fire Chief Mark Hasheider said the fire department responded to the incident.

The man was unconscious when police arrived, however regained consciousness after being treated by emergency personnel.
