JACKSON, Mo. (Heartland News) - A delivery of bourbon bound for this weekend’s Bourbon in the Park event crossed the Mississippi River for the first time Friday morning.

The shipment from Jackson Purchase Distillery left Kentucky on the Dorena-Hickman Ferry. It is the distillery’s first shipment to Missouri.

The shipment is bound for the William J. Wines Bourbon in the Park event in Jackson. Bourbon in the Park will take place at the Jackson Band Shell from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on September 26.

Craig Beam, master distiller for Jackson Purchase Distillery, said Bourbon in the Park is his first time crossing the Mississippi with the distillery’s bourbon.

“It’s very exciting. I’ve been here five years also and this is my first time going across the ferry. And you take your bourbon across to Missouri. It’s exciting,” Beam said.

Terry Ballard, head distiller for Jackson Purchase Distillery, said the distillery has been able to sell its bourbon in Kentucky.

“We just love the idea that people are loving our bourbon so much and Missouri wants it and we are going to deliver as much as we can. It’s very exciting,” Ballard said.

Besides this weekend’s event in the Jackson city park, bottles are heading to an event in St. Louis in October.
