Scott County coroner: Second autopsy to be conducted in Gilmore case
SCOTT COUNTY, Mo. (KFVS) - Scott County Coroner Cody Caudle says a second autopsy will be conducted as part of his investigation into the death of 44-year-old Lloyd Gilmore.
Caudle tells me he is working with the legal team representing the Gilmore family to schedule the detailed examination.
Gilmore died June 11, 2026, while in the custody of the Sikeston Department of Public Safety.
Caudle says he wants the second autopsy to have two opinions on record regarding Gilmore’s cause and manner of death.
Gilmore’s first autopsy, completed June 15, 2026, did not determine a preliminary cause of death.
According to Caudle, Mr. Gilmore was not shot, and the first autopsy did not find evidence showing he had been severely beaten.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the incident at the request of Sikeston DPS.
