2-year-old dies after being attacked by family dogs

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WITN/Gray News) - A death investigation is underway in North Carolina after authorities say a toddler was killed in a reported dog attack.

Rocky Mount police said they were called to a residence Monday afternoon regarding an injured child.

Officers said a 2-year-old was found at the scene suffering serious injuries after being attacked by two family dogs.

Despite life-saving measures and the child being taken to the hospital, they did not survive, police said.

The dogs, both pit bull mix breeds, were taken in by Rocky Mount Animal Services as the investigation continues.

The family involved was not immediately identified.
