CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - A number of “No Kings” protests happened all throughout the Heartland on Saturday.

From Cape Girardeau in southeast Missouri to Carbondale in southern Illinois to Paducah in western Kentucky.

According to the “No Kings” website, protestors were expected to demonstrate peacefully--no weapons allowed.

The “No Kings” protest in Cape Girardeau took place at Freedom Corner in Capaha Park. Several hundred people lined the sidewalks on Broadway and West End Boulevard.

Indivisible SEMO helped organize the protest in Cape Girardeau. Leaders say they are protesting against “increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption from Trump and his allies.”

Debbie Kitchen, with Indivisible SEMO says “I’m so happy with the turnout. It shows me that my hometown is as empathetic and compassionate as it was when I grew up. And it makes me so proud to know that a non-partisan protest can bring this many people to stand up for their rights in America.”

In Carbondale, hundreds of demonstrators lined Routes 13 and 51 in Downtown.
