60 police cruisers come out for parade for 6-year-old with leukemia

SPRINGBORO, Ohio (WXIX) - Officers from across the Tri-State traveled to Springboro on Monday to take part in a parade for a 6-year-old boy with leukemia.

Springboro police put the call out that they wanted to get more officers to show Eli some support.

Officers from practically everywhere were reaching out, even British transportation police sent in a video to let the 6-year-old know they got his back.

“A family had reached out to officers to do a drive-by parade for her son,” explains Springboro officer Aaron Morgan.

That was the family of 6-year-old Eli.

Morgan says she learned Eli had some similar passions to her - Eli wants to be a police officer.

Eli has leukemia and he’s at a point where he can’t be too close to people because he’ll get sick.

That is where the idea for the parade came and Morgan says they had more officers on board than she ever imagined.

“We have about 60 cruisers that have shown up and brought gifts,” said Morgan. “I’m just so overwhelmed with the kindness of our community right now.”

So, all 60 cruisers made their way to Eli.

“We sign up to help people,” Morgan explains. “A lot of people don’t think of us and think of good things. They’re usually calling when something bad is happening. We’re here to support people when there’s good things too.”

Morgan even says the Springboro Police Department will have to keep a cruiser ready for Eli when he gets older.
