SIU Alumni Assoc. to honor 2024 distinguished alumni

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KFVS) - The Southern Illinois University Alumni Association will honor six people and two organizations at the 2024 SIU Distinguished Alumni Awards Ceremony.

According to SIU, the recipients include a law enforcement officer, a Hollywood producer, an international alumna working for the Fulbright Commission in Ecuador, a career educator in higher education and a notable voice in Chicago sports radio.

Other recipients are a junior at Southern Illinois University Carbondale who is a pre-medicine student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in physiology, the SIU Alumni Band Group and “Captain’s Club” fundraising group.

Honorees include:

• Paul E. Echols - ‘81, MPA ‘02 (Distinguished Alumni)
• Todd Abrams - ‘90 (Volunteer Excellence)
• Mitchel D. Livingston - ‘69 (Diversity and Inclusion)
• Prisha Kittu (Outstanding Student Council Award)
• Dominique Crespo-Mijares - ‘16 (Young Alumni Achievement)
• Marc Silverman - ‘93 (Saluki Spirit)
• SIU Alumni Band Group (Innovation Award)
• Captain’s Club Fundraising Group (Innovation Award)

The banquet will be on Friday, September 20 at Blue Sky Vineyard in Makanda, Ill.

The Distinguished Alumni Award is the SIU Alumni Association’s highest honor.

The candidates are chosen by a committee of members on the association’s national board of directors.
