Evacuations are underway as the Pocket Fire burns north of Sedona, sending smoke over the red rocks and closing SR 89A. The Pocket Fire started near East Pocket, also known as the “Edge of the World,” in the Coconino National Forest. Visitors in Oak Creek Canyon and the Edge of the World area have been ordered to evacuate. State Route 89A is closed for 23 miles between Sedona and Interstate 17 as crews respond. The wildfire has burned about 100 acres so far, with hotshot crews, engines and other resources heading to the scene. Officials are urging people to avoid the area and follow evacuation orders.
