Funding halted for IL youth drug treatment program
BENTON, IL (KFVS) - Funding for an Illinois program that helps teenagers get off methamphetamine use is being halted by Governor Bruce Rauner.
The Methamphetamine Treatment Program housed at the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center serves as an alternative to jail for many youth addicted to meth.
Franklin County Board member say the $1.2 million per year funding could even be cut completely.
The program helped nearly 573 teens from 30 counties in 2014.
"We feel that the Governor is making a mistake by freezing our funding, and proposing its elimination next year," said Franklin County Board Chairman Randall Crocker. "The Meth Program is a program that is proven to work, and it makes a difference in kids' lives."
The program has been backed by Senator Forby and Representative Bradley, who say will take the fight to Springfield.
