CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (Heartland News) - It was only a Wednesday afternoon regular season match, but Chaffee-Notre Dame sure felt like a district title game.

Both teams deserved to win, but only one can actually put a W in their record. And after nine innings, Chaffee was the side to do just that.

The Lady Devils fought from behind, forcing extra innings, eventually scoring the go-ahead runs that would secure them a 7-5, nine-inning victory.

Host Notre Dame entered the match 0-2, but the Bulldogs immediately took the lead with Ashley Taylor and Claire Robert batting runs in to make it 3-0 Notre Dame.

That lead held even after a Jordan Jones solo homer made it 3-2, the Devils able to get on base but not tie it.

Facing the final few outs, Chaffee sprang to life in the seventh, specifically Kolie Morgan, who sent a pitch flying over the back wall, suddenly making it 5-3 in favor of Chaffee.

But right as Notre Dame was on the hot seat, Lauren Estes sent a pitch across the wall as well, tying the game 5-5, sending the Bulldogs into a state of rapture.

Not much happened in the eighth, but in the ninth, Addison Uhrhan’s bunt turned into Chaffee pandemonium. An errant throw missed first, Uhrhan being called to second, then third, then home to put Chaffee up for good. Bailey Robertson came across for the final run of the game, and Carylanne Cossou, who started the game on the mound, ended it in the bottom of the ninth.
