Gusty Winds and Flooding Rains Expected Through Saturday
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - A strong storm system will bring gusty winds, damaging storm potential and heavy rain to the region Friday evening through Saturday. Residents should prepare for potential impacts to travel, outdoor plans and property.
Scattered showers and storms will develop Friday evening across the Heartland. A few of these storms could produce gusty winds early in the evening. The primary concern, however, shifts after midnight when storms take on a flooding threat.
Heavy rain will be the main story overnight. Some areas could see more than three inches of rain, creating dangerous conditions for travel and potential flooding in low-lying areas. Lows by morning will drop to the lower 70s.
A cold front will push through the region late Saturday. Ahead of this front, scattered storms will develop during the afternoon hours when temperatures reach the middle to upper 80s.
Any strong storm that develops Saturday afternoon has the potential to produce strong winds capable of causing damage. Residents should monitor conditions closely and have a way to receive weather alerts throughout the day.
The system moves out Sunday, bringing a quieter weather pattern to the Heartland. A slight chance for a few showers remains, but the primary threats will have passed. Highs will reach the middle 80s.
