OVC, MVC softball tournaments set
SEMO 5-seed in Peoria, SIU and Murray earn top-3 seeds in Carbondale
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - The Ohio Valley Conference and Missouri Valley Conference softball championship brackets are set.
SEMO opens Wednesday, UT Martin Thursday
The OVC regular season concluded with Eastern Illinois winning a regular season championship.
Eight teams qualified for the OVC Softball Championship, held once again this season at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex in Peoria, Illinois.
Heartland teams SEMO and UT Martin both qualified for the tournament. The Redhawks earned the 5-seed while the Skyhawks earned the 2-seed, giving them two byes.
5-seed SEMO will start on the first day of the championship in the opening round, against 8-seed Western Illinois, Wednesday, May 6 at 2:30 p.m. While most of the tournament is double-elimination, the first round is single-elimination, so a loss in that game would dump SEMO out of the championship completely.
A win would put SEMO through to the double-elimination part of the tournament; they would progress and face 4-seed Lindenwood later in the afternoon, Wednesday.
UT Martin will start play Thursday, May 7 at 10 a.m. The Skyhawks’ opponent won’t be set in stone until Wednesday evening.
The tournament concludes Saturday, with the winner progressing to the NCAA Division 1 Softball Tournament.
All games for the OVC Softball Championship will stream live on ESPN+.

Murray State, Southern Illinois earn top-3 seeds in Carbondale tournament
The MVC regular season concluded Saturday, with Belmont winning the regular season title.
Just six teams qualified for the Missouri Valley Conference Softball Championships, which this year changes from a single-elimination tournament to a double-elimination tourney.
Southern Illinois hosts this year’s championship, with all games being played at Charlotte West Stadium in Carbondale.
3-seed Murray State plays 6-seed Belmont in the opening round of the tournament Wednesday at 3 p.m.
If the Racers lose, they’ll drop to the loser’s bracket and play an elimination game at 6 p.m. Wednesday. A win, however, progresses them to Thursday, where they’d face 2-seed and tournament host Southern Illinois.
The tournament concludes Saturday, with the winner progressing to the NCAA Division 1 Softball Tournament.
Like the OVC championships, all games for the MVC Softball Championships will stream live on ESPN+.
