Flamm Orchards strawberry season underway in southern Illinois

UNION COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) - Flamm Orchards in Cobden is now open for the strawberry season.

Orchard leaders say they could not have asked for a perfect strawberry crop this year.

Many had wondered if the drier-than-average April would affect this year’s crop.

Co-owner Austin Flamm said strawberries actually do better in a drier environment.

“We have an excellent strawberry crop this year. The weather has been perfect. A little on the dry side with cool nights. Not only is our crop larger than normal. It tastes great,” said Flamm.

The strawberry season is expected to last through June, just before peach season gets underway.

Flamm Orchards is open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and picks strawberries daily.
