Every Illinois county connected to essential services by 211
ILLINOIS. (KFVS) - More than 12 million Illinois residents are connected to access to housing, food, healthcare, and other essential needs through 211 services.
Every Illinois resident can now dial 211 to connect to services that offer help getting basic needs such as housing, food, health care, and mental health services. 211 Illinois announced the completion of statewide coverage.
“Statewide 211 coverage is a major milestone for 211 Illinois,” said David Wortman, board chair.
The nonprofit said the three-digit number works as a free, confidential, 24/7 starting point for people who aren’t sure where to turn. Call specialists can help residents find local programs, check what services they may qualify for, and provide referrals. The help includes rent or utilities assistance, finding food pantries and nutrition programs, locating clinics, and connecting to counseling, crisis, and caregiver support.
“Every Illinois resident deserves to know where to turn in a moment of need,” said IDHS Secretary Dulce M. Quintero.
“211 is a vital service and a core part of Illinois’ health and human services safety net,” said Edward Perry, executive director of 211 Illinois. “With statewide coverage now in place, every Illinois resident has a simple, reliable way to find help, 24 hours a day, by calling, texting, or searching online.”
211 Illinois serves as the state’s coordinating organization for the 211 system, setting service standards and working with partners to keep information current. The group works with the Illinois Department of Human Services to support the Illinois 211 Service Act and maintain a statewide network.
The statewide directory includes more than 35,000 verified resources.
“Statewide 211 coverage is a major milestone for 211 Illinois,” said David Wortman, board chair.
Residents can reach the service by calling 211, texting a ZIP code to 898211, or visiting https://211illinois.org and selecting “Search for Help.”
