Amazon semi-truck flipped and packages scattered after driver fell asleep, authorities say
GREGG COUNTY, Texas (KLTV/Gray News) - An Amazon semi-truck lost control early Monday morning on a Texas roadway, flipping over a concrete barrier and landing upside down in a culvert.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the driver was heading west on Interstate 20 near Rabbit Creek around 2 a.m. That’s when authorities said the driver fell asleep and the truck hit a concrete barrier before falling into a culvert below.
The driver was flown to the hospital by helicopter as a precaution, but was later determined to be OK and released without any injuries.
The truck and the attached trailer, however, were heavily damaged. Packages were also thrown from the trailer, but were not on the road.
At least three dumpster bins were brought to the crash scene to help clear the damaged packages.
I-20 was reopened at around 4 p.m.
