CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe and the state of Missouri have recognized Cape Girardeau as a Missouri Blue Shield Community.

Missouri cities have to demonstrate a commitment to public safety, innovation in crime reduction and strong community partnerships to earn the distinction.

Cape Girardeau Mayor Stacy Kinder says, “This recognition affirms what we already know, that our police department is made up of dedicated, forward-thinking professionals who work tirelessly to keep Cape Girardeau safe.”

The designation opens grant funding as well as funding for training and equipment for law enforcement from the state of Missouri.

The city has made commitments to people living in Cape Girardeau with recent programs, like the mental health co-responder unit and the opening of a new state-of-the-art police station.

“Our officers don’t just respond to crime—they work to prevent it, to build trust with the community, and to bring innovative solutions to long-standing public safety challenges,” said Police Chief Adam Glueck.
