St. Francis CARE’s Golf Scramble returns May 16
MAKANDA, Ill. (KFVS) - A chance to have fun while raising money for furry friends is happening in May.
St. Francis CARE’s Golf Scramble is set for Friday, May 16, at Apple Creek Golf Club in Makanda, Illinois.
People can register in teams of four, with a $150 entry fee per person.
That price includes green fees, cart, continental breakfast/lunch, snacks, and two beer tickets, with each additional beer ticket costing a dollar.
Spots for the 1 p.m. shotgun are full, but the 8 a.m. shotgun still has openings.
Click here to find the entry form. Completed forms must be dropped off in person at St. Francis CARE or mailed to the following address:
- Diane Daugherty, ATTN Golf Scramble, 6228 Country Club Rd, Murphysboro, IL, 62966.
Daugherty said the event will be people’s first chance to hit the course at Apple Creek Golf Club, new to the area.
“This is probably our most important fundraiser of the year,” Daugherty said. “It takes about a million dollars to operate our shelter. We don’t get any government grants or any government funds. It’s all through fundraising, adoption fees, surgery fees, and donations.”
The scramble helps the shelter give pets like nine-week-old hound mix Gianna a new chance at life.

To adopt Gianna, fill out the online application. The fee is $300, which includes spay, microchip, and vaccinations.
