FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Tennessee Department of Transportation said they’re holding one of its contractors accountable following a display of a vulgar message on the side of an interstate this week.

On Interstate 65 North between Spring Hill and Franklin, a TDOT contractor displayed a vulgar message on one of its road sign trucks.

The message read, “SLOW WORKER AHEAD YALL ****.”

TDOT released the following statement regarding the contractor’s display of the vulgar message:

“This is unacceptable and does not align with our TDOT values. We take safety and public trust seriously. As soon as we were made aware, action was taken.  This truck and signage were operated by a contractor controlled at the site level. These are not TDOT employees.  However, we expect our contractors to conduct their work consistent with our values and will hold them accountable for doing so.”
