5 accused of trying to put fireworks in vehicle’s gas tank; 1 suspect arrested

One person is in custody after being accused of putting fireworks in a vehicle’s gas tank.

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (KFVS) - One person is in custody after being accused of putting fireworks in a vehicle’s gas tank.

The incident happened on Friday, July 5 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

According to the Poplar Bluff Police Department, officers were called to the 1200 block of Fairmount Street for a report of property damage. The victim told police five males tried to put fireworks in the gas tank of their vehicle.

While at the scene, officers saw five males walking toward the home. However, they ran away when they saw the police.

Shortly after, one of the males was taken into custody, but he refused to identify himself. However, police were able to later identify him as 21-year-old Detrayous Wallace. He was processed and lodged in the Butler County Justice Center.

According to the police dept., the same fireworks used at the scene were found at Wallace’s property.

This investigation is ongoing.
