Afternoon Originals: Ian Ferguson shares music journey

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - Heartland musician Ian Ferguson is no stranger to the music scene.

Since the age of 8, he credits his family for teaching him how to play guitar.

Ferguson said his hometown of Perryville is, “just a little place I can call home.”

It wasn’t until his grandfather passed away in February 2021 that he began taking music more seriously.

“He wanted me to pursue it for him because he knew it was something I loved to do and it was my dream,” he said.

His family pulled together to buy him a guitar, which he still uses as of June 2024, and plans to keep it as long as he can.

“Every time I play it it’s not just for myself it’s for my whole family,” he explained.

Ferguson said the main intention behind writing music is storytelling.

“It kind of seems like that’s a dying art. So the more I can tell a story the more I will be happier for the listener.”

He hoped that in the future one of his songs will take off.
