The Jackson County Historical Society is announcing it will release a new publication titled, "Tornado Scrapbook 1925, Jackson County, Illinois."

The soft-back book is a compilation of approximately 335 photographs of the Murphysboro, Gorham and DeSoto communities immediately following the March 18, 1925 Tri-State Tornado.

The book contains photographs from a period souvenir booklet, screened postcard images and photos donated to the society by local residents.

The reader is guided through Murphysboro via a virtual walk down Walnut Street, covering the area from 10th Street to 22nd Street, through neighborhoods with extensive damage both north and south of Walnut Street and through the town's industrial area.  Also highlighted are the villages of Gorham and DeSoto, both of which endured vast destruction.

The book was compiled by Robert R. Morefield and Myers Walker, Nick Quigley and Laura Cates Duncan edited the book.

The society is accepting pre-orders at a price of $25 per book now through September 30. The cost will increase to $30 per book on October 1, 2016. Pre-order forms are available at the Society's headquarters, which is located at 1616 Edith Street, Murphysboro, Illinois. Pre-orders can be made by visiting the society's website.
