Sikeston teen in critical condition after shooting early Saturday

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -

Police in Sikeston are looking for suspects after a shooting of a 16-year-old on Saturday, Dec. 19 around 2:30 a.m.  

Sikeston DPS Captain Jim McMillen said the department received a call about a person who had been shot at a home in the 1500 block of E. Kathleen.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 16-year-old victim in the doorway who had been shot in the abdomen.

The teen said he had been shot in the street in front of the house after being confronted by two unknown suspects. The teen said the two men were wearing masks and were trying to rob him.

He said he fought back and that was when one of the suspects shot him in the stomach.  

EMS responded and took the teen to a local hospital. He was later flown to a trauma hospital in St. Louis and is said to be in critical condition.  

Investigators located evidence of the shooting in the roadway near the home.

Nobody is in custody at this time and the incident remains under investigation.
