Wreaths Across America events honor fallen service members

BENTON, MO (KFVS) -

Communities across the nation took part in wreath laying ceremonies Saturday to honor fallen service members. It's all part of a program called Wreaths Across America.

At 11 a.m., people nation-wide participated in a moment of silence.

One of the events was held in Benton, MO. After the ceremony, family members laid wreaths on their loved ones graves.

Organizers say giving them the chance to honor them in this way is what it's all about.

“It's always nice to see the families appreciate and then other people appreciate the veterans for what they've done, what they've given,” Jeff Allen said.

The Benton event was put on by the local American Legion along with the Wreaths Across America program.

Many people donate money to help purchase the wreaths, as well.
