KENTUCKY (KFVS) -

Drivers in Kentucky will see a new machine on the roads this winter.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 1 engineers have completed their test runs along Interstate 24 using a new supertanker. The 5,000 gallon tank will be put to work pre-treating roads in the coming months. The truck is designed for mass spraying of four-lane highways.

According to the KYTC, the supertanker holds about double the amount of brine spray as other trucks. On the last test run, more than 100 miles were covered. That allows drivers to pre-treat more roads with fewer stops to refill. It can also run at 65 miles per hour rather than 50 mph.

Only water was used during the test runs.
