John A. Logan offers free tuition for students over age of 60

John A. Logan has a policy in place for students over the age of 60 that waives tuition for Continuing Education classes.

"The college has had the senior waiver policy that's been in place since the college started 48 years ago," director for Continuing Education, Barry Hancock said. " What it is is seniors ages 60 years of age or older who attend credit classes here at the college, which have a listed tuition, those classes we do not charge them any tuition."

Hancock said the college does charge applicable fees that may go along with the course.

Students who fall into the policy say it's worthwhile.

"That's a great help, great help," student Dianne Hannon said. "And again, this is just to continue for self improvement, so it's a win-win."

"The mixture of different ages in the classroom is a great thing because it gives the younger people a different perspective. They'll say 'He doesn't know what he's talking about,' but sometimes we do," student Stephen Yarbrough said jokingly.

Hancock said even though there is still no agreement on a state budget, there hasn't been any discussion of getting rid of the policy.

More than 40 classes are offered from Real Estate to Photography.
