Good news and bad news when it comes to kids and crime. The good news, Juvenile crime rates are going down at the same level as the overall crime rate.The bad news, even though there are fewer juvenile crimes, the kinds of crimes young commit are more disturbing. Juvenile crimes like the school shootings in West Paducah, Columbine and Jonesboro are becoming more the rule than the exception. Nationwide statistics show while juvenile crime rates are steadily declining, the number of violent crimes and drug cases have shown a dramatic increase in the last decade. And juvenile officer Randy Rhodes says he's seeing a similar trend in Cape Girardeau, Bollinger and Perry counties in Missouri--except here the juvenile crime rate isn't dropping--it's leveling off.
