Heat Related Deaths in the Heartland

Heat Related Deaths in the Heartland
By: John Dissauer
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- The excessive heat is going to continue for the next several days.  Heat Advisories are in effect for all of the Heartland.
Believe it or not, heat is the number one weather related killer in the United States.  On average, 350 people die each year due to heat.
Unfortunately, the Heartland hasn't been able to avoid heat related deaths.  Below is a listing of the number of deaths related to heat over the last 11 years.
Thanks goes to the National Weather Service office in Paducah, KY for providing these numbers.

Something to note about the 10 deaths in the Heartland.  All of the deaths occurred to people either 1) while inside a home/apartment with no air conditioning or 2) while working outside.
