Church in Carbondale, IL host giveaway for students in need

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Students in Carbondale, Illinois are getting back-to-school help from a local church.

The Carbondale Church of Christ will continue a 20-year tradition this weekend with a day of giving. The church will give away books, blankets, TV's and other items to folks from all over southern Illinois.

Adam Jones, minster of Carbondale Church of Christ, said the church has already given away items to some international students who organizers say come to campus with very few things in their possession.

"Year after year, our elder Terry Taylor says we are to small of a church to end up with this much stuff, and its true we are not a big church, but the community really comes through and we end up with so much stuff to give away to people," said Jones. "Its inspiring and telling about the good that's in people."

The give away is on Saturday, Aug. 25 at the Carbondale Church of Christ from 9 a.m. through 11 a.m.
