Gov. Parson appoints new Cape Girardeau Co. Prosecuting Attorney

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - A new Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney was appointed on Wednesday, Aug. 22 by Governor Mike Parson.

Mark Welker won the August primary election and is running unopposed for the position in the November general election.

Welker has practiced law in Cape Girardeau County since 2013.  He holds a Juris Doctorate from Southern Illinois University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southeast Missouri State University.

Welker is involved with Cape West Rotary, the Cape Girardeau County Republican Central Committee, and the Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport Advisory Board.

He previously served as a member of the Missouri Bar Young Lawyers' Section Council and as president of Cape Girardeau County Young Lawyers.
