Murray State University to present two new art exhibits
(KFVS) - Murray State University Galleries and the Department of Art & Design present two new exhibits on campus: "Happy and Sad Rabbits" and "Innuendos.

"Happy and Sad Rabbits" is a joint exhibition by artists Annie Strader and Matthew Weedman.
It will be on display through September 30 in the Clara M. Eagle Upper Gallery within the Price Doyle Fine Arts Building.
Strader and Weedman are interdisciplinary artists working with photography, sculpture, video, sound and performance.
Their collaborative work examines personal history, issues of traditional gender roles and how these ideals are imbedded in objects, materials, images and sounds.
In "Happy and Sad Rabbits," the artists draw upon their research into the histories of early 20th century technology, consumer spiritualism or magic and their points of intersection to touch on themes of illusion, disappearance, absence and loss.
Strader and Weedman have worked together since 2012 and have had their work exhibited nationally.
They also maintain active solo careers and other long-standing collaborations.
Strader is a member of the Bridge Club, a performance and art collaborative, while Weedman is a member of the Flinching Eye Collective, a live experimental sound and multimedia group.
Strader received her MFA from the University of Colorado at Boulder and her BFA from Ohio University.
Weedman also attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and holds a bachelor's degree in film studies, a bachelor's degree in photography/new media and an MFA in sculpture and post-studio practices.
They both presently hold the position of Byron K. Trippet Assistant Professor of Art at Wabash College.
"Innuendos" is an exhibit featuring ceramics by Kevin Kao.
It will be on display in the Mary Ed Mecoy Hall Gallery within the Price Doyle Fine Arts Building through Sept. 19.
Born and raised in California, Kao is a ceramic artist following a sculptural tradition.
His work has been featured in more than 40 exhibitions nationally and shown in several museums, galleries and publications.
He is the recipient of the Warren MacKenzie Advancement Grant presented by the Northern Clay Center.
Kao earned a bachelor's degree in biology with emphases in ecology, evolution and animal behavior from the University of California at San Diego and an MFA in studio art with an emphasis in ceramics from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
Kao is an assistant professor of art at McKendree University.
"Lately, I've been thinking about bad jokes. Puns. Innuendo," Kao wrote about his work. "My recent work explores humor, form and hubris as bad visual punchlines. […] This attention to craft and semantics allows me to probe into social sensitives, facilitating a dialogue between taste, kitsch and purpose."
Admission to both exhibits is free and open to the public.
