CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Southeast Missouri State Move-in Day is here again.
This year check-in will be from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Student Rec Center on Thursday, Aug. 16.
Students can pick up parking passes and ask questions at this time as well.
Around 2,200 students will be on campus by the end of the day Wednesday and more than 1,000 will move in on Thursday.
"A successful move-in day is the kind of day when everyone has a positive day and no one has anything that gets lost," Asst. Dir. Admissions for New Student Programs Katie Foshee said. "My best tip for incoming students is to make sure that all of you belongings are labeled so that our volunteers can get everything to your room as quickly as possible. A successful move-in day is when we have a full and active community by the end of the day on Thursday."
Those volunteers are greek life students or students that live off campus.
After students are ready to say goodbye to the family the Move-in Bash starts at 8 p.m.
"We know that students are moving away from home, most of them for the first time. It's difficult to find your footing in a new community if you don't know a lot of people. So activities get them out of their room, meet new people," Foshee said. "We also know that students that participate in things outside the classroom tend to be retained better to the university so we want our students to be in an environment where they're successful and happy and coming back to progress with their college career and on towards graduation."
