There's been lots of talk about opioid abuse over the past several years. Here on Heartland News we've done numerous stories on the impact of opioid abuse and often the stories are tragic. According to the Centers for Disease Control, 66% of all deaths from overdose involve opioids. This leaves doctors and patients looking for other medicines to treat pain, and more importantly, is adding to the ever growing opioid abuse epidemic.
Now Raycom Media and KFVS12 present Licensed to Pill, a one-hour investigation that exposes doctors betraying patients by prescribing addictive opioids to line their own pockets. This special is scheduled to air Saturday night at 11:05 on KFVS12 and Sunday night at 6:00 on The Heartland's CW. You can also watch it on digital platforms including Roku.

Licensed to Pill follows up on extensive investigations aired over the past year, during which time a federal raid, charges against doctors, and action by Congress were all realized. The Raycom Media "Investigative TV" team, headed by Director of Investigations Lee Zurik spent nearly a year analyzing millions of records and thousands of doctors. Our mission is to shine a light on the root of the problem and start the conversation on ways to stop opioid abuse. I encourage you to watch License to Pill, because being informed and making sure people have the information they need to avoid addiction make this A Better Heartland.
