5-year-old hit, killed by vehicle in Carbondale, IL
CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - A child was killed in a crash in Carbondale, Illinois on Monday, Aug. 13 at 7:55 p.m.
Officers of the City of Carbondale Police Department responded to the 500 block of North Wall Street regarding the crash. When they arrived, officers found a 5-year-old male child who had been struck by a vehicle.
Officials determined that the child entered the roadway on foot and was struck by the front of a vehicle, which had traveled northbound on North Wall Street.

The driver attempted to swerve to avoid the child but was unable to do so according to police. After hitting the child, the vehicle left the roadway, struck a utility pole, and came to rest west of the roadway.
According to police, the child was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jackson County Coroner's Office. The driver of the vehicle was unharmed.
The investigation into this incident is continuing and the results of the investigation, to include an accident reconstruction, will be presented to the State's Attorney at the conclusion of the investigation. The Department was assisted in the investigation by the City of Carbondale Fire Department, the Jackson County Coroner's Office, the Jackson County State's Attorney's Office and the Williamson County Sheriff's Department.
