Highway patrol: Driver pulled out in path of train, killed in Dunklin Co., MO

DUNKLIN COUNTY (KFVS) - Crews were on the scene of a deadly crash involving a train and another vehicle on Monday, August 13.

According to Dunklin County Sheriff Bob Holder, it happened around 11 a.m. on Highway 62, outside Campbell, near the Arkansas state line.

This was west of County Road 301 and County Road 217 in Dunklin County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, 59-year-old Jeffery Rees of Holcomb was driving a Ford Ranger northbound while 29-year-old Derek Childers of Little Rock, was driving the train southbound.

According to the report, Rees pulled into the path of a Pacific Union Train.

His next of kin was notified after he was pronounced dead by the Dunklin County Coroner James Powell at 11:38 p.m.

According to the highway patrol, Rees was not wearing a safety device at the time of the crash. Troopers said there was a yield sign and crossbucks at the crossing.
