FRANKLIN COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - A body was found in Franklin County, Illinois on Saturday, Aug. 11.
According to Franklin County Sheriff Don Jones, a body was found near the old Ben Coal #9 mine.
Jones said the body had been there for a while and was badly decomposed.
An autopsy was conducted on August 13 according to Jones. A cause of death has not been determined and is considered suspicious.
Investigators are working to identify the body and to develop leads.
Jones said the mine has not been in operation for 50 years.
Franklin County Coroner Marty Leffler said an autopsy is planned for Monday, Aug. 13 on the body.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office, the Franklin County Coroner's Office and ISP are investigating.
