CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - A citizens' group could build Carbondale, Illinois' first dog park soon.
The Carbondale Park District Board of Commissioners will formalize the relationship August 13 between the Carbondale Park District and Friends of Carbondale Dog Parks (FCDP). The Board of Commissioners meeting will be Monday, August 13] at 5:30 p.m. at the Carbondale Civic Center, 200 S Illinois Ave. The public is invited to attend.
Park District Commissioners approved the FCDP site plan in June 2018, and the formal contract will allow FCDP to move forward with construction of Carbondale's first public dog park.
The dog park will enclose 2.5 acres at Parrish Park, adjacent to the Life Community Center on West Sunset Drive.
This public facility will have sections for small and large dogs, water fountains, a shelter, benches, dog waste disposal facilities, and will be ADA friendly.
The City of Carbondale will install water lines and concrete pads at the entrance and under the shelter and water fountains, and the John A. Logan carpentry class plans to build the shelter. All other construction costs will be raised by FCDP. When built, the facility will become the property of the Park District.?
