JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Gaege Bethune, a man convicted of the death of an SIU student, has new legal representation days before his sentencing on August 15.

The Jackson County Circuit Court granted Bethune's attorney Mike Wepseic's motion to withdraw as part of his case, according to online court documents.

Steven Greenberg and T. Liam Kelly will now serve part of Bethune's counsel.

The online court documents also note that the defense filed a motion asking for an extension of time to prepare and file an additional post-trial motion.

The judge denied the motion on new trial for Bethune one day after his 24th birthday.

Bethune was found guilty on Thursday, June 14 of first-degree murder predicated on aggravated battery in the death of Pravin Varughese.

He faces anywhere from 20 to 60 years in prison.
