Crews hit gas line, building evacuated in downtown Cape Girardeau

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Crews are responding to a construction incident on Fountain and Broadway Streets.

This is in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. It happened just after 7:30 a.m.

According to Fire Chief Rick Ennis, construction crews working on the Marriot on Fountain hit a gas line during construction.

There was no gas detected in nearby buildings but one business was evacuated as a precaution.

Ameren is on the scene along with Cape Girardeau fire officials.

One block of the roadway is shut down.
