Paducah-McCracken County Riverport Authority awarded $251K Marine Hwy. Grant

PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - The Paducah-McCracken County Riverport Authority was awarded $251,927 America's Marine Highway Grant from the Maritime Administration (MARAD) – U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) on August 8, 2018.

The funds are for the acquisition of shoreside container handling equipment for the Riverport's Container on Barge service.
The Riverport is the only port in Kentucky and on the Ohio River to have a Marine Highway Designation.
The equipment acquisition is projected to cost $427,000. The additional funds are from the Kentucky Riverport Improvement fund of $87,500 and Riverport funds.
The purpose of MARAD's Marine Highway System is to reduce landside congestion.
