CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Monday was the the Cape Girardeau County sheriff's last day in office as he officially resigned.
Sheriff John Jordan announced his resignation on Monday, August 6 and said he would officially resign from his position on Aug. 13.
Ruth Ann Dickerson will serve as the interim sheriff.
There will be an election on the November ballot.
In a release, Sheriff John D. Jordan said as he and other United State Marshal nominees are on the Senate Calendar for a confirmation vote, he must step down.
He said stepping down will allow the County Commission to call for a special election for a sheriff in the general November election. He said it will save county taxpayers the $80,000 expense of conducting a special election outside of November.
Those interested in serving as interim sheriff must submit an application to the Cape Girardeau County Commission by Friday, August 10 at 4:30 p.m. An application can be requested by calling 573-204-2494 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
