CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - A traffic stop ended in a crash on Sprigg Street in Cape Girardeau late Friday night, August 3.
According to Cape Girardeau Police, an officer attempted to stop a vehicle near Frederick and Williams Street. The blue Dodge Charger failed to stop and a chase ensued. The vehicle went north up Sprigg at a high rate of speed.
The officer then lost sight of the vehicle near Sprigg and Bellevue and then saw smoke shortly after. The driver had hit a utility pole and another vehicle near Mason St. on North Sprigg.
The other driver suffered non-threatening injuries and was hospitalized.
The driver of the Charger was found unresponsive and was transported to a local hospital for "advanced treatment".
He was then later transferred to a St. Louis medical center for further treatment. As of Monday, August 6, the driver was in intensive care listed in stable condition.
