Jackson, MO police warn of IRS scam

JACKSON, MO (KFVS) - The Jackson, Missouri Police Department is warning residents about an IRS scam.

Residents told police that someone identifying themselves as the IRS over the phone is saying the agency will file a lawsuit against you if a specific amount of money is not paid. They further threaten that an arrest warrant will be issued if you do not comply and officers will come to your home and arrest you.

Police warn this is a scam as the IRS will not call you to demand immediate payment if you owe taxes without first sending you a bill in the mail.

Investigators also remind never give out any personal information over the phone as credit and debit card numbers or social security information.
