Deer, motorcycle crash seriously injures driver in Jackson Co., IL

JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) - Deputies said a deer was the cause of a motorcycle crash in Jackson County, Illinois on Tuesday, July 31.

At 11:36 p.m. the Jackson County Sheriff's Office along with the Jackson County Ambulance Service responded to the single-vehicle crash.

The crash was on Ava Rd near Sharp Rock Rd according to deputies.

Officials said 47-year-old Todd Wiarda of Murphysboro was riding  1980 Harley Davidson motorcycle east on the roadway when a deer entered the eastbound lane.

The deer caused Wiarda to lose control of the vehicle and he sustained serious injuries. He was transported to an area hospital where he was later taken to a St. Louis Hospital.

The sheriff's office reported that they have not received any information on the status of Wiarda's injuries.
