Mayfield man charged with kidnapping, assault following physical altercation

MAYFIELD, KY (KFVS) - A report of a fight in progress sent Mayfield, Kentucky police to the 900 block of south 9th St on Monday, July 30.

Officers said on the way there the call was upgraded to shots fired where one person may have been shot.

Zachary Scott Dillon, 26, of Mayfield was charged with kidnapping, assault second-degree, four counts of wanton endangerment first-degree, tampering with physical evidence, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Immediately, officers said when they arrived they secured the firearm and began checking people for injuries.

No injuries from a gunshot were found but officers said two subjects had numerous injuries resulting from the fight, and were transported by Mayfield EMS to an area medical center.

Dillon was one of the subjects transported. Police said Dillon had taken the victim to 9th street, and accused the victim of robbing him of cash.

Police said when the victim denied the accusation, Dillon began to beat the victim. During this time, the victim's family arrived, and witnessed the victim inside the residence.

The family attempted to leave with the victim, and began fighting Dillon. Dillon produced a firearm, and shot one time, but didn't hit anyone according to police.

Detectives secured a search warrant for the residence to collect evidence of the crime, and also to recover narcotics and paraphernalia Dillon admitted to having at the time of the incident. The investigation is still ongoing at this time.
