CHESTERFIELD, Mo. (AP) - An F-18 fighter jet has landed safely at a suburban St. Louis airport, despite problems with its landing gear.
Officials at Spirit of St. Louis Airport in Chesterfield, Missouri, say the jet landed to refuel Wednesday morning. As it was leaving the pilot was unable to retract the jet's landing gear and radioed that he was returning.
The pilot circled the airport to deplete some of the fuel. Firefighters were placed on alert before the jet landed. The pilot was uninjured.
