CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The Diagnostic Radiologic Technology (RT) program is soaring above the national average.
Sponsored by Southeast Missouri Hospital College of Nursing and Health Science (COHN's), the program has achieved a 100 percent pass rate for people who are first-time test takers on the national certification examination offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
According to spokesperson Sally Owen, this 100 percent score is above the national average of 86.3.
Students in the program outscored their peers throughout the country in the areas of Patient Interactions and Management, Radiation Physics and Radiobiology, Radiation Protection, Image Acquisition and Technical Evaluation, Equipment Operation and Quality Assurance, Head, Spine, and Pelvis Procedures, Thorax and Abdomen Procedures as well as Extremity Procedures.
Owens said in 2017 the average scaled score by COHN's students was 90.4 while the national average was 83.6.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of radiologic and MRI technologists will grow 13 percent from 2016 to 2026.
