Man in custody after Sikeston Dollar General armed robbery

Arrest made in Dollar General robbery

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) - A man who authorities considered armed and dangerous man is behind bars after an armed robbery at a Sikeston, Missouri store on Monday, July 16.

Joshua Thomas Kerr, 39, of Sikeston was charged with first -degree armed robbery, first-degree burglary, kidnapping, and stealing.

Kerr was taken into custody shortly after 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 19 and has no bond. He is awating arraignment in New Madrid County court.

According to Sgt. Jon Broom with Sikeston Department of Public Safety, officers responded to the Dollar General at 917 S. Kingshighway for an armed robbery on Monday morning around 7:27 a.m.

They said the store clerk arrived to open the store for business, parked their vehicle in front of the building and entered the store.

Once the clerk finished the opening process, officers say the clerk planned to park the car and unlock the store.

After moving the vehicle, the clerk told officers a man ran toward them from behind the ice machine near the entrance to the store.

The clerk reportedly struggled with the suspect over the door but he was able to make his way inside.

Once inside, police said the suspect pulled out a handgun and demanded cash.

They said the suspect left with an undetermined amount of cash.
