According to ISP, the driver of a pick-up truck was attempting to enter back onto the right lane of the interstate after having a mechanical issue.

The driver of the pick-up, Lois M. Freeman, 68 of Metropolis, IL, allegedly pulled out in front of an SUV driven by Brian D. Foree, 61, of Troy, IL.

ISP says Foree was not able to changes lanes due to traffic and abruptly stopped to avoid hitting the pick-up truck.

A semi-tractor trailer, driven by John D. Wilkin, 75, of Olney, was behind the SUV and was unable to slow down.

The semi then hit the SUV in the rear.

The force of the crash sent the semi and the SUV into the center median.

The semi continued moving and crashed into the rear of the pick-up truck.

The semi and the pick-up truck then stopped on the left shoulder of the interstate.

Emergency personnel rushed to the scene.

Ambulance crews took Freeman, their passenger Cecil D. Marten, 57 of Metropolis, and a passenger in the SUV, Sandra Foree, 58, of Troy, to a Kentucky hospital for non-life threatening injures.

A medical helicopter flew Mr. Foree to an Evansville, Indiana hospital for non-life threatening injures.

It is not clear if Wilkin was treated for any injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by ISP.
